Red Oak Jointer Plane

270.00

The wooden jointer/shooting plane is one of the most versatile tools I use. This red oak jointer is 18" long with a 1 1/2" wide Hock blade & breaker and a 1/8” thick sole made out of goncalo alves. A wenge pin holds the wedge and blade in place. 2 1/4” wide and 2” tall. The size is perfect for flattening surfaces, edge-jointing, leveling the tops and bottoms of drawers and boxes, truing edges - generally straightening anything. This is also the type of plane that I use on it’s side with a shop-made shooting board or bench-hook for squaring ends, trimming workpieces and edge-jointing shorter pieces.

The low, close-to-the-work hand position is ideal for working accurately. The straight, squared shape helps me to orient the plane to the workpiece when edge-jointing or working with narrow pieces. The plane can be held anywhere along it’s length depending on the job at hand, giving the tool a very sensitive level of control. The shape allows it to be pushed or pulled, depending on the need.

All planes feature Hock high carbon tool steel blades with breaker and assembly screw. The 3/16" thick Hock blade sharpens easily, holds a superior edge and won't chatter during use. These blades are designed specifically for wooden Krenov-style planes. The plane comes carefully prepared and sharpened, ready for use.
