Our relief carving class introduces students to the fundamentals of woodcarving while focusing on relief carving techniques.

The workshop will cover the basic ideas of carving wood, choosing wood species that carve well, working with wood grain, and holding the workpiece securely. Special emphasis will be given to making sense of which carving gouges and chisels to purchase, when and how to safely use them, and importantly, how to sharpen and maintain each unique shape…
