Level: upper beginner/intermediate

Students will learn essential hand and machine skills by building a small table with mortise & tenon joinery. Topics include wood selection, layout and planning, accurate milling, sharpening chisels, various methods of creating mortise & tenon joints, glue-up and finishing techniques. This class is ideal for students ranging from beginners to more experienced woodworkers who want to take their woodworking skills to the next level. Pre-requisite: Intro to Woodworking or equivalent experience.

Learn the basics of woodturning while transforming raw pieces of wood into functional and beautiful turned items. Working on wood lathes, students will learn safe and efficient woodturning techniques along with proper turning tool usage. This class is designed for beginners and those wanting to continue building on the skills learned in previous woodturning classes. Students will choose from projects such as mortar & pestle, candlestick, spurtles, honey dipper, spinning top, small vases, wine bottle stopper, rolling pin, and bowls.

Marquetry: Creating Images with Wood

This class will focus on the double-bevel method of marquetry, a technique where different colors of wood veneers are carefully cut to fit precisely together creating a design in wood. Also covered will be applications for marquetry as well as re-sawing solid wood into veneers, vacuum press and simple veneer press techniques, the use of fret saw and scroll saw and applying a finish to completed designs. Each participant will complete projects using various sawing techniques and materials. We will begin with the artwork, work through the marquetry process and apply a finish to the completed design. Prior woodworking experience is helpful, but not necessary.
