Making a Comb-back Windsor Chair - part 2

I’ll be assisting Mario Rodriguez in Philadelphia Furniture Workshop’s 7-day Comb-back Windsor Chair making class this summer.

Participants will spend the first part of the workshop (5 consecutive days) carving, steam bending and turning all the parts needed for a comb-back Windsor arm chair. Employing a combination of machine and traditional hand tool techniques designed to facilitate the learning experience and maximize student efforts, students produce all the parts for their own chair. At the end of the week, students go home to sand, gauge, and embellish their chair parts.

The final 2 days of the workshop take place the weekend of August 22 - 23, 2020. Students spend those 2 days fitting, assembling and finally decorating their chairs. The workshop is divided into two sections so that participants have time to make and fit all parts of their chairs themselves, including the steambent arm and comb that need some time to dry once bent.
