I’ll be teaching Philadelphia Furniture Workshop’s 5-day Live-edge Coffee Table course this July, 2020. Students use unique live-edge boards as starting points to design and then make their own tables (PFW will source live-edge slabs prior to the class).

The coffee table dimensions are somewhat flexible, allowing the shape and nature of the slabs to lead the design. Locally available species such as cherry, curly or ambrosia maple, walnut and others will be chosen from a local sawmill.

If needed, students can accent the live-edge table top with one or more dovetail (butterfly) keys. Each student then designs his or her own base with instruction throughout the course. There are many design possibilities that fit well with live-edge tops.
